thanks kano, i had this problem too.
I fixed fbsplash.install with your patch and rebuilt gensplashutils 1.4.2-2.
now gensplashutils 1.4.2-2 is also in my repo, and splash works again!
sorry, but i can's see, where is it ..., or how to get gensplash from your repo ...
i added
[pierlo]
Server = http://pierluigi.netsons.org/repo
into my /etc/pacman.conf
but nothing happens ...
(and if this [usrl]http://travmap.shishnet.org/map.php?lang=en&server=speed.travian.cz&alliance=t.m.a.%2C%20rvhp&groupby=alliance&casen=on&format=png&[/url] is your repo, i can't see it there ...

the url is correct.
then:
pacman -Sy pierlo/gensplashutils
by the way, dtw is right, official packages shouldn't stay on personal repos. I just wanted to give a chance to get sooner the fixed package.

Ohh, you're awesome guys, great work! I'll see my lovely console background again .
But I'll probably wait for official package. BIG thanks dtw for maintaining gensplash stuff, I can't stand splashy for now... Maybe in future .

fbsplash.install fixes made and rolled out across the board
Offline
now, it works fine for me. Thx guys!

I've actually tested it now too so that's good
Offline
Yeah, thanks dtw! Now (with the new scripts and all) everything works fine. The silent-splash lasts even longer than before, so that you don't see the verbose-splash for a second before kdm starts!
now with 80% more sax-appeal!

Oh, unexpected bonus!

If you could do something to make gensplash daemon work, I'd be even more happier.
Simple "/etc/rc.d/gensplash start" produces neither any effect, nor any log messages. But when trying following sequence...
splash_util --tty=2 -m v -t darch -c setcfg
splash_util --tty=2 -m v -t darch -c setpic
splash_util --tty=2 -m v -t darch -c on
...I can get so desired console background image. For now I'm using some self-made script to do this for me, but it'd be nice to get it out-of-the-box, so if you had some spare time...
Once more time, big THANKS for maintaining all this gensplash stuff. It lets me not to look like complete computer geek when working in console .

pkraw - I'll have a look
I like the console splash too, more than silent splash in fact...which is a shame because that's what you need the kernel patch for

Could it be, that you still have gensplash AND gensplashutils? gensplashutils did not uninstall automatically on my pc, as I updated gensplash manually. So I had to remove gensplashutils and re-install gensplash by hand.

Yeah, that's also my main-reason for using gensplash! ^^

No, I'm also not getting it set and I don't have gensplashutils installed, so it's a problem with the gensplash rc script. Never really bothered me though, as I'm either in X or using the console with screen, so the other tty's don't get used.

I think you got an broken installation, because on my pc everything works fine:
# /etc/rc.d/gensplash start
:: Setting gensplash console images [DONE]
just tested it.

Everybody check where you gensplash.conf file is - it has moved from /etc/conf.d/gensplash to /etc/gensplash.conf

What did the kernel panic say?
Sorry for shocking you. It really did not happen ever before. But now it even happens with my backup-system which was not changed for a few month now. I found out, that it is a hardware-problem. Nothing with your kernel...

Depending on the point of view. For your kernel it's good, so I'm happy, I found a working, up-to-date, suspend2+fbsplash-kernel. On the other side I probably have to replace some hardware and my socket A is no longer produced, not for mainboards and not for cpus so it could get a little bit expensive.
