Pacman doesn't work

So I just tried to install arch using the new duke iso, and everything went well.  When I logged in and tried "pacman -Syu" I got a message saying that pacman "Failed to syncronize current".  So I tried pinging www.google.com and it worked just fine.  I tried reinstalling using a different mirror to no avail.  Can anyone what am I doing wrong?

Try commenting out the old mirrors first then syncing to the new one.
