faster transfer as root

Normally as a user I just type $ mount /mnt/stick and transfer data to my usb stick. But I can transfer data much faster when as root I # mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/stick. There must be a gottcha here --I can't figure it out. I'm using the default udev rules. Here's my line in fstab:

/dev/sda /mnt/stick vfat rw,user,noauto,sync 0 0

thanks

Re: faster transfer as root

It's  the sync option. When you mount it as root, it uses the defaults options which implies async. As user, it uses the sync option as specified in your fstab.
