Looks fantastic, unfortunately, I only have a 2GB iPod.

Is it possiable to put this on my iPod and boot up? (every time I try to put a linux on my iPod, some residual firmware from apple is still on there or something else and my comp wont boot it, it just freezes at BIOS screen).

If not, I dont have a DVD burner, is their a way I can install it onto a spare 10GB parition I have to try it out? Maybe dd the usb .img to the partition?

Thanks.

The usb image file is an image of an entire drive with 2 partitions in it. So no, you can't just use dd to lay the image over an existing partition on your hard drive. However, all hope isn't lost. The first partition in the USB image is an ext2 partition that can be dumped onto a hard drive partition. You just have to find the offset of the ext2 partition inside the USB image. Then you can use dd with the skip and bs and count options to dump the ext2 partition only. Time permitting I'll try to do this and will let you know.

As for your ipod, I would say download the usb image and give it a shot. Unfortunately I don't have an ipod so I can't tell you if there are any problems with it or not. Please let us know if you get it working on your ipod. I'm sure there are others that would be interested as well.

Re: FaunOS: New Release Available

Alright, I tried with my iPod, no luck. Freezes every BIOS bootup screen on every computer I tried, it must be something in the iPod perventing the computer from booting it sad.

Also I tried to dd the dvd iso over to the spare partition. The problem is, by dd'ing it over, I loose the ext2 file system I set for the partition and if I use "mkfs.ext2 /dev/sda3" it removes all the contents from sda3 hmm so no luck there either.

I wait to see what you've come up with first, if you cant find a way as well then ill go buy a 1 GB stick, I've been needing one for a while now.

Thanks.

I am not surprised.

I did say in my previous post that it will not work this way.

I'll see if I can try it out today.

Re: FaunOS: New Release Available

A.I. Bot: I'd say you should go and buy a 1GB USB stick.

It is possible to install directly to hard drive from the faunos02b.img file but it requires the faunos.img to be rebuilt with some changes. This is not the way that FaunOS was designed to be installed and it would create more headaches than it's worth.
