Is /dev/sr0 permission wrong?[solved]

Hi

This is my first post. I've been converted from gentoo (not entirely) for 1 day. Arch is a great distro and please keep up the good work.

My problem is I can't play audio cd (from banshee http://banshee-project.org/) or vcd or dvd from mplayer if I'm not logging in as root. I found that permission of /dev/sr0 is "brw-rw----" so I changed it to "brw-rw-r--". Now mplayer works fine, Banshee can see audio cd and read track info but can't play music. :(

BTW, /dev/sr0 permission on gentoo is "brw-rw----". Any ideas?

Thanks

Is your user a member of the audio and optical groups?

You probably need to add yourself to the 'optical' group. See the Wiki page on groups for details on Arch's way of handling this sort of thing.

Also, welcome to Arch! I'm sure you'll love it here.
