Enabling 64-bit support

My laptop has a Celeron M 520 CPU, which apparently is x86-64:

The new Celeron M 520 is a single-core 65 nm CPU based on the Merom Core 2 CPU. It has half of the L2 cache (1 MiB) of the low end Core 2 Duo (2 MiB cache) and lacks both SpeedStep and Virtualization Technology. It also features Intel 64 technology and XD-bit support with 533 MHz FSB.

Not really sure I want to make use of 64-bit mode yet, but it appears that there's no option in the BIOs for enabling it. Supposing I wanted to use my machine in 64-bit mode, how would I set it that way?

Re: Enabling 64-bit support

Install a 64 bit OS, and you're in 64 bit mode.

Re: Enabling 64-bit support

Oh... I thought there was a pure 64-bit mode that dropped compatibility with 32-bit software... All automatic, or am I thinking of the wrong processor?

Re: Enabling 64-bit support

I believe you may be thinking of the Itanium processor which is totally 64-bit.

Greetings from a smartphone.
