Kernel config auto generator

Does anyone know of a .config generator of some sort that automatically probes hardware to detect what kernel options should be enabled? I like the idea of automating some of the kernel compiling tasks because simply saving a .config sometimes doesn't always work.

Re: Kernel config auto generator

I remember coming across a distro called h3knix which claimed to have a tool like that, but I never investigated it - I was in 'compile-your-own-kernel' mode back then. Don't know if that distro is still around, either.
