Is there Blender2.44 package ?

Hi

I'm using Blender 2.43 on the laptop computer, and be happy blending every day!:)
Few weeks ago, I Found newest Blender version 2.44 on the web site(blender.org).
But,I can't find the new blender package in the arch's package repos.

Does anybody know how can I get new blender package?
Should I compile source code by my self?

Welcome to Arch.

If you don't feel like building it while you're waiting for the official Arch package, I would download one of the optimized builds (assuming you're on 686) from www.graphicall.org. Just unpack it and run it from whereever you want. If you're on 64 bit, grab the official build from blender3d.org.

And thank you for telling me a useful site.(www.graphicall.org, I did not know that site).

Yes, I'm on 686.(Thinkpad X60s)
I am at a loss which I should choose.(waiting official package or..downloading from www.graphicall.org)

Because, I'm not familiar with the difference between x86 and i686, and I wonder x86 package
is slower than package for i686.

What do you think about that?

I'm only familiar with people using x86 anymore when referring to 64 bit (x86_64). I can't really give concrete advice on what to grab from Graphicall because I'm on 64 bit (I'm using the BF version (BF = Blender Foundation, or stock build)). I do know that it's a very trustworthy site. Blenderartist.org would be littered with pissed off 14 year olds if it wasn't!

If you want to try some of their builds, go down to optimized builds (the second section), and choose i386 from the drop down list. I know it says 386, but if you look at the compile flags that they're using, these are all for 686. Seeing that you can run different versions of Blender concurrently as long they're in different directories, you can try a few out and see what you think.

Also, I have modifed a PKGBUILD that allows you to download the latest SVN checkout and build from there.  EXTREMELY current -- hours old I guess!  If you want it I'l try to get it to you some way.  Its x86 (i686) -- not 64.

My package (not the "particles" one) uses SVN, not CVS.  The "particles" one uses the yet-not-included-in-Blender patch for the new particle engine -- does hair, fluids , etc.

It works very quikly.:D

The second one fails on 64 bit. If it's important for anyone to know, I'll post the error later.

I don't have a 64-bit machine.  If anyone has a good eye, for that by all means take a look.

@koro:  Thanks.  The second one (with the particles) is in the AUR.  I didn't put the first one in because a blender package is already there.  I'll try to keep up with it though in case we ever need it.

oh my god... upgraded blender today and it is thousand times faster... I can't even see the splashscreen, it disappears immediately... ;-)

Blender's the cat's meow!  I own Lightwave and have upgraded from 7.5 through the current version, but STILL prefer Blender!

Imagine if the whole open source community was as motivated to produce quality software as the Blender team is...
