Hey all,
I have been a regular arch and slack user for some time, but also enjoy hopping distros to try new approaches. As a result (and I am sure I am not the only one) distrowatch is on my favorites list, along with sites that host reviews.
Many hoppers, read the reviews before choosing a distro to install, to see if the product fits their ideals. In essence, reviews (if positive) can increase usage.
I must say, that I have few to no complaints with arch....and love it for its simplicity, and the simple fact that it is canadian (as am I)...surprisingly, that was a big selling point for me.... being homegrown!
I am actually surprised that there are no reviews out on "Duke"! It is a milestone release, and in my opinion, rivals the big distros in every way. What would be great is a series of reviews to get the word out, and preach to the masses. I wonder if it is possible for the main archers to network/call in some favours to get a couple reviews to link to the site, and distrowatch and such?
cheers
ryan

Well, that Distrowatch thing comes up from time to time... Leave it be - it actually doesn't matter. The rankings do not represent exactly how good the distros are, neither their installed base size. Stupid things like regular releases of isos (that have almost no difference with the previous or is an alpha) or flame posting actually influence the ranking greatly. Arch is in the upper half now and that's not so bad - and it will only grow - due to user base growth and more regular iso release.
And, if you want more public attention for Arch, hm, spread the word... ![]()
If everything else fails, read the manual.

I did never read any reviews.. i like testing it for myself.
After testing many Distributions i found that name "arch linux" sounds cool so i gave it a try ![]()
Now many of my friends are using arch because i told them about it and all are satisfied with it :-) i think that's the best way to go.

Arch works like magic and fits like a glove. I am very surprised it has not grown exponentially more popular.
I must admit that I wish it were a bit more popular, but at the same time, I am also proud that I am using more of an esoteric distro. The top 4 or 5 distros on distrowatch are doing a lot for Linux, but I wouldn't trade Arch for any of them. I try to encourage everyone to use Arch, for its simplicity, speed, power, quality and pacman.
