Pixel

Did anyone tried or using Pixel image editor - http://www.kanzelsberger.com/pixel/?page_id=12

I downloaded beta 6 and it is very good, IMO better than Gimp.
Okay it is not opensource but how many people use Photoshop on Linux?
This weekend I will pay...

Re: Pixel

I am also interested in pixel, and would be interested in how you install it. Will it be as an independent program, or will you make a PKGBUILD?

I think independent package. I installed demo version (beta 6 and I didn't pay yet...) with package installation I am surprised how good it
is. No, I didn't try to make PKGBUILD (doesn't bother me smile )

I did try to use search many times but not in this case. I didn't expected that NO opensource would be here in the ARCH. And as I wrote before I installed as I installed, pay and it works great. Hard time for GIMP IMO.

Re: Pixel

I bought a license a couple years ago, was pretty solid then. Crashed on Windows a lot, but was fairly stable under linux. Had a lot of serious bugs (most noticable in the textr engine) though that ruined usability for me. These days the program works pretty much as it should, but the development has been stalled for a long time now. Pavel will be releasing Beta 8 "Real Soon Now(tm)", but development has been stalled so long while Photoshop surged ahead, that I tightened my belt and bought a copy of Photoshop CS3 (Academic version, was about $270).

So now I use dualboot into Windows and use Photoshop when I need the power for serious work, and Krita, which has also gained a lot of ground recently, especially in it's painting abilities, for quicker jobs. And my Pixel license goes unused....

Edit:: Cleaned up half-asleep grammer and wording for a less confusing post smile

Re: Pixel

I agree with xenobrain about krita. I personally don't use it but I hear lots of good things about it.
Gimp is nice but it lacks innovation. I'm using 2.3.18 and it's not really so much better than 2.2.x
