Standard sourceforge source url

What's the currently recommended standard for sourceforge source url in the sources array? I've been using "dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/..." after reading somewhere it was the advised way though I found "dl.sf.net/sourceforge/..." to resolve much faster.

Thanks in advance.

You could refer to this thread on TUR mailing list:

downloads.sourceforge.net works better for most people

Re: Standard sourceforge source url

Thanks for your quick reply shinlun.

You mention downloads.sourceforge.net though ElasticDog says downloads.sf.net is the latest recommendation in the TUR's ML. They resolve to different IP addresses though both seem to work fine, is there any difference then?

Re: Standard sourceforge source url

I don't think so, whenever I type <project>.sf.net I'm getting forwarded to <project>.sourceforge.net, probably the same for the downloads subdomain.

Not the same for the downloads subdomain.

Re: Standard sourceforge source url

I had a look on Sourceforge documentation and their new mirror selection popup lately, not too shabby.

To make it short: source=("http://downloads.sourceforge.net/$pkgname/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz") or similar should be used from now on.

The dl.sourceforge.net round-robin contains a few mirrors that are no longer valid, like Keihanna or Voxel.
Try this one to get a current mirror list:

curl -s http://sourceforge.net/project/mirror_picker.php | grep , | cut -d'=' -f4- \
 | sed -r 's/"(.*)"..>(.*[A-Za-z])<.*/\1.dl.sourceforge.net\t\t\2/' | sort
