Whenever I start my computer with a cd in the drive, the computer ends up freezing after a minute or so. The same also happens if I insert it after boot. The dvd burner is recognized in Gnome Baker, and I was able to install Arch with the drive. I have played with the jumper settings, and that had no effect. The dvd drive is IDE, and I have a sata HD. I had the same problem on other distros. I've looked everywhere for a solution, but nothing. If someone could please shed some light on this, I would be most appreciative.

Does your system lag at loading udev during boot? I had some crazy hardware issues when I got this computer and it always lagged at boot when loading udev.
This is just a wild guess, but it could be udev conflicting with your bios probing....

No lag at loading udev, thanks for the suggestion though.
