Unable to add myself to optical group

First, I just want to say that I've read both of these pages in an attempt to fix this problem:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=34092
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Groups

Basically, I was having problems using k3b, in that it gave me this message every time I tried to start it up:

/dev/sr0 resolved to /dev/sr0
(K3bDevice::Device) could not open device /dev/sr0 for reading
                    (Permission denied)
could not open device /dev/sr0 (Permission denied)
/dev/sr0 resolved to /dev/sr0
(K3bDevice::Device) could not open device /dev/sr0 for reading
                    (Permission denied)
could not open device /dev/sr0 (Permission denied)
Devices:
------------------------------
kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KActionCollection::operator+=(): function is severely deprecated.

To fix this, I tried both methods of adding myself to the optical group, usermod and gpasswd. Both methods say that I've been added.

 [alex@Craptop ~]$ sudo gpasswd -a alex optical
Adding user alex to group optical

When I type 'groups', however, optical doesn't show up, and k3b still gives me a permission denied error whenever I start it up, unless I'm under the root account. Anyone have any ideas?

You have to log out and back in again for group changes to take effect.

There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)
