I recently compiled a new kernel from source. However, when I boot dmesg tells me that no sound cards are being detected. I don't have the configuration for the old kernel to reference for this.
lspci -v tells me this:
00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB AC'97 Audio (rev 01) Subsystem: Dell Computer Corporation: Unknown device 01be Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 5 I/O ports at b800 [size=256] I/O ports at bc40 [size=64] Memory at f4fff800 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512] Memory at f4fff400 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256] Capabilities:  Power Management version 2
$ ls /dev/snd seq timer $ lsmod ipw2200 $
I think I forgot to compile something in to the kernel. However, I compiled in the AC97 controller in Device Drivers, as well as all of the ALSA and OSS stuff. Any idea what I missed?
Also, when I do this:
cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp
It makes noise, does that mean anything?
