Gnome-screensaver Login Dialog in xfce

Hi,

I have set-up XFCE to use gnome-screensaver, mainly for its nice looking login dialog.  The only problem is I do not know where to adjust the settings for the login dialog while in XFCE so I get no picture, real name, etc.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Re: Gnome-screensaver Login Dialog in xfce

I just installed gnome-screensaver myself (tired of how atrocious xscreensaver looks and am wondering the same. If I find anything I'll let you know.

Re: Gnome-screensaver Login Dialog in xfce

hmm

I just found this info on getting some xfce stuff to better integrate with gnome-screensaver:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … p?t=458516

now my 'lock' action button locks the screen using gnome-screensaver instead of xscreensaver.

As root, you may be able to edit this file (or the one appropriate for whatever language you use arch in):

/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/%gconf-tree-LANGUAGE.xml
where language is something like: en_CA

right at the top of that file I see gnome-screensaver stuff

Re: Gnome-screensaver Login Dialog in xfce

and from /etc/gconf/2/path

# This file stores the addresses of config sources for GConf
# When a value is stored or requested, the sources are scanned from top to
# bottom, and the first one to have a value for the key (or the first one
# to be writeable) is used to load/store the data.

# See the GConf manual for details

# Look first in systemwide mandatory settings directory
xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory

# To read in any mandatory settings that the Sys Admin may have created
# prior to a desktop system upgrade. The SysAdmin can stick read-only system
# wide sources in this file.
include /etc/gconf/2/local-mandatory.path

# Now see where users want us to look - basically the user can stick arbitrary
# sources in a ~/.gconf.path file and they're inserted here
include "$(HOME)/.gconf.path"

# Give users a default storage location, ~/.gconf
xml:readwrite:$(HOME)/.gconf

# To read in any defaults settings that the Sys Admin may have created
# prior to a desktop system upgrade. The SysAdmin can stick default values
# system-wide in this file.
include /etc/gconf/2/local-defaults.path

# Finally, look at the systemwide defaults
xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults

hhhmm... the real name, picture and so on are configured in the "About me" dialog in gnome. if you use gdm you can configure the picture with gdmphotosetup too. (and actually, I think you just need to put a image called .face in your home and both gdm and gnome-screensaver will recognize it as your picture)

Thanks.  Adding a picture called .face in the home directory does work nicely.  I am now on the search for how to change the display name.  I'll post back if I find anything.

Found it, it uses the finger name, to change it you have to run chfn your_user as root (because if you run it as the user it won't let you change your name) and set it up, then gnome-screensaver will read it from finger.
