Extremely slow/Non-existent audio CD play back

Hello.

Recently, my audio CD play back has become non-existent. I can load the CD in exaile, but when I try to play it, exaile locks up. In xfmedia, *sometimes*, I can get a few seconds of playback, but then the whole thing locks up again.

I can't get exaile to output any useful error logs.

Also, grip seems to be able to rip audio CDs without a problem. And DVDs are perfectly watch-able.

Can someone point me to where I should look to get some error logs? Or just tell me what's wrong?

Here is what hdparm /dev/hdc outputs:

/dev/hdc:
IO_support    =  0 (default 16-bit)
unmaskirq     =  0 (off)
using_dma     =  1 (on)
keepsettings  =  0 (off)
readonly      =  0 (off)
readahead     = 256 (on)
HDIO_GETGEO failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device

ADDED: I am in the optical and audio group. This is a strange problem, as in one day, it just decided to die. Maybe it was a pacman upgrade..? None of the logs in /var/log show any useful information..
