So I switched to Brasero about a month ago, because I was having a LOT of issues with gnome baker. Brasero has been great...until now. It wont burn...when I create a project and click 'burn' the 'progress box' (for lack of better term at the moment) comes up...but it just says getting size and never starts to burn. Anyone else having problems? Any suggestions?

Well thats the thing...the program never actually crashes so I dont get any output from the terminal. It just never starts burning.

Maybe something is wrong with nautilus-cd-burner in your system. Brasero using it as backend for burning.

Is there a way I can check or correct that?

try recompiling the libs that brasero uses and the brasero it self..use ABS...it should do the deal

Ive done all that. Tried both versions in aur (stable and svn), and also the one in the community repo in pacman.

Been having the exact same problem. The "progress" would just hang and the burner seemed dead. Oddly, sometimes it would have burned the disc even through the progress box was hung up.
I have now been able to to get Brasero to burn a data CD, audio CD, and an ISO image today by turning off libburn_burn & libburn_iso through GConf editor. I would swear I had tried this before and it did not work, but today it is working.

Well Ive only tried audio CD's. However Ive tried it with both libburn_burn and libburn_iso on and off both. I havent had any issues until just recently. But I am in fact attempting to burn an audio disc right now and the progress box still hangs and my machine is totally silent. Maybe it was worked out thru an update in pacman today? I havent up dated today so Ill try that and see if it works anything out I suppose...hehe just thought of that now.

Yes...indeed that DID do it. After updating with pacman I tried brasero again, and its finally working. I have a feeling this may have been a problem somehow related to X or GNOME because Ive had a lot of problems with GNOME lately, and in my updates was some stuff for the X server so hopefully some other things may have gotten worked out in updates today too. :-D

How long did it hang? I have a very old system (P2 233mhz) and on the audio disc it was VERY slow moving off the "get size" section.
Maybe try a small data disc; you could also simulate the burn so as not to burn up blank discs.

Ill give it a shot...but it hasnt acted that way before...after updating the other day it burned an audio cd no problem...but now its screwed again

i also got problems with brasero 0.6.0
Gnome gets the writable cd but brasero says this disc is not writable!
hmm...
this is what dmseg says:
cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
ata2.00: 24 bytes trailing data
attempt to access beyond end of device
sr0: rw=0, want=68, limit=4
isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=sr0, iso_blknum=16, block=16
cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
ata2.00: 24 bytes trailing data
I'm in the optical group! Do i have to load any early modules?
Any ideas?
