Firefox is lagging

Hi folks, I hope this is right here,
I've got a problem with my firefox since a few days. It is lagging for a while after starting it. It takes a lot of time longer for it to answer pressed keys or other input. After a few minutes after starting it, it reacts normal.
First I thought it would be another program which is stealing the traffic but it isn't.
I haven't installed a new plugin or something.

As a normal user i don't get any error.
When I'm starting it as root, it says:

[root@nils nils]# firefox

expr: Syntaxerror
The "expr: Syntaxerror" is repeating endless
And when I'm starting firefox as root, it won't react. A window with firefox as caption is opening, but it doesn't happen anything. And it doesn't happen anything when I'm waiting, doesn't matter how long.

I've tried to look for something strange which is called by firefox via:
lsof | grep firefox
but I don't see anything unusual.
It's version 2.0.0.4 for x86_64 (installed by pacman).

Could anybody tell me what could cause that ? Thank you very much for reading

I had problems posting in some forums too. It takes too long search in the page (ctrl-F) or close a tab. Finally I downgraded to previous version and all it's ok again with same "configuration files". By the way, arch x86_64 and firefox 2.0.0.4 installed by pacman.

I just don't get it... A few minutes ago I installed SwitchProxy and firefox isn't lagging anymore.

But I don't get why ????

It didn't work here. Back to previous version.

It didn't work here. Back to previous version.

I just recognized it loads a long time every time I click on a link that opens a new firefox-window... damn
