My friend just told me that you can't download the stable version of Elive without donating, yet it still calls itself free. Anyone else find it odd that they "force" you to donate, isn't that the same as paying. I think people should donate money if they like a distro, but their method seems a tad harsh on people like me who don't have paypal and refuse to use credit cards on the internet.
EDIT: Apparently theres an alternative server you can download from which is always unavailable.

It's still "free as in speech," as long as the source is available and the user is allowed to distribute modifications. The GNU project has an article on this very topic.
EDIT: I just noticed that the Elive site also links to the GNU article.
