install Auto-Prepare feature

I am thinking of installing Arch on free space on my hard disk.  Will the Auto-Prepare feature use the free space for the 3 partitions it will create?

The documentation says it will erase the entire HD.

AUTO-PREPARE WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON THE CHOSEN HARD DRIVE!

Kinda of unclear to me. Does this mean it will reformat the free space or just take the entire HD?

I have Vista and Gentoo already on my computer and want to give Arch a try.

Also I do not want to install the bootloader (as I will add Arch to my Gentoo Grub conf).  Is this stage optional?

auto-prepare will re-partition your whole harddrive. If you want to keep the other partitions, you should not choose auto-prepare.

If you skip the grub-install menu-item, everything will be fine. You will have to update /boot/grub/menu.lst, but you're well aware of that i think
