I have installed skype version 1.3.0.53, but it's really ugly. No antialiasing for fonts, looks like some ugly GTK1 app. Is this normal?
Furthermore I tried to install a newer skype from the AUR, but since skype changed the pathnames for its linux files it does no longer work. Can anyone give me advice on what to do now?
ps I love arch, have been using it for less than a week (though I'm a linux user for 11 years) - gotta say, arch is great!

skype-devel (in the aur i believe) works ok. It's QT, not GTK based, so try to dig into QT configuration

I have tried to install that, but I think skype has changed something on their website:
-> Downloading skype-alpha-1.4.0.58-generic.tar.bz2

Excellent
Didn't know that, thanks Nick. Are you aware of any sites that have QT Themes for download?

If you don't have KDE install you should install polymer from AUR. It's a rather elegent QT style that doesn't depend on KDE at all. You can then choose it in qtconfig
