when trying to run printer control I get connection to cups server failed, check to see if cups server is running and correctly installed. when trying to restart server it fails with message unable to find a running cups server. Here is the applicable part of rc.config

current kde is 3.5.7.1
/usr/share/cups/model/foomatic/hp lists all drivers for my hp psc 2210
hplip 1.7.4 has been installed and restarted. any ideas?

Hi, I have the same problem. I went through the setup wiki, did the debug, etc.
When I installed the cups package on that page it seems to have messed up konquerer (it no longer opens webpages due to an io slave problem)
Anyways, I still get the following problem:
Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager:
Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running. Error: localhost: read failed (14).

1. I can't see the module part, you must write down the proper modules.
2. You didn't run cups at daemon.
3. add yourself to the lp group if you haven't
# gpasswd -a username groupname
the list of groups is in the /etc/group, you can view it with
# nano /etc/group
