I know pacman alleviates "rpm hell," but has anyone tried to remove the gnome group? I know I could just delete the directory in /opt, but I'd like to get it out of my pacman db if possible. If anyone knows how to do this, then please, share the info. Thanks.
May the Schwartz be with you.

pacman -Sc (for old versions) and pacman -Scc (for all versions) is not for uninstalling packages, it is for removing the *pkg.tar.gz-files your apps come from. This is an operation done to save space, the programs will still be installed after you are done.
pacman -Rg gnome is what you should do if you wish to uninstall the gnome group.

pacman -Rscg gnome will uninstall(R) the gnome group (g), with all dependencies (without breaking other pkgs) (s) and all packages that require the uninstalled pkgs (c).
