Kernel 2.6.22-rcX and SATA problem

hi,

I installed arch on my new notebook. all fine but I have no battery entry in /proc/acpi/battery. google told me that I should install kernel 2.6.22.
Now I have a problem with this version. No, it is no problem but mysterious neutral

the kernel boots, but then it stops, because it finds no root-device on sdaX (sata harddrive). I changed it to sdb on grub and fstab and it works. also I have to sda devices hmm sdb is the hard-drive - what is sda? it is NOT the cdrom. it is only 8 megabytes. I can edit it with cfdisk.

Has anyone an idea, what sda is?
with kernel 2.6.21 I have no one.

greets
Hauke

ps: sorry for my english.

Re: Kernel 2.6.22-rcX and SATA problem

Hi,

fdisk:

Disk /dev/sda: 8 MB, 8388608 bytes
8 heads, 32 sectors/track, 64 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 256 * 512 = 131072 bytes

dmesg told about sda:

sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] 16384 512-byte hardware sectors (8 MB)
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Mode Sense: 73 00 10 08
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, supports DPO and FUA
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] 16384 512-byte hardware sectors (8 MB)
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Write Protect is off
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Mode Sense: 73 00 10 08
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Write cache: enabled, read cache: enabled, supports DPO and FUA
sda: unknown partition table
sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Attached SCSI disk
sd 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0

i not dare to create a partition...

I am at a loss sad
Maybe it is the hard-drive cache from sdb??

Re: Kernel 2.6.22-rcX and SATA problem

I don't have sata myself, but using thelibata IDE drivers, I have lines like this in dmesg that identify the drives:

scsi 0:0:0:0: Direct-Access ATA HITACHI_DK23EA-3 00K4 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5
scsi 1:0:0:0: CD-ROM TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-7102B 1908 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5

Do you see anything like that?

Re: Kernel 2.6.22-rcX and SATA problem

ohhh, i am so stupid!
here i found the entry:

scsi 0:0:0:0: Direct-Access     Linux    scsi_debug       0004 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5

so, i had activated scsi debug in kernel.

now, i've only my sda smile

thx a lot
