xfce/xfce4 - I had a low proc and they allowed me to save time
mc - for mcedit, and the easy to use ftp
ssh
firefox

In no particular order:

Firefox: the current crowning open-source achievement.
Bluefish: a simple, elegant, clean, full-featured editor for HTML, PHP and more.
PekWM: just a fast *box-like WM.  Light, full-featured and purty!
Rox Filer: a great file manager with lots of cool add-on apps.  Panels too!
Pacman: Arch Linux rocks!

I have to re-do mine list, don't ask why

1. Opera (sorry firefox, but I'm in love)
2. MPD (music player daemon) with glurp
3. OpenBox (the greatest box of 'em all!)
4. anjuta (not for c/c++, for java! :twisted: )
5. abiword (freaking great!)

new thing, after completing my course in java, and learning to write some serious sh14t code, I intend to learn C# and abuse mono
