When not in my native resolution, everything seems to display fine (besides the fact that it is blurry and squished -- one of the few things I hate about LCD screens) except videos. I use MPlayer as my main video player (I've tried this with just about every player pacman has to offer, though) and it shows a big ugly baby blue bar above the video. Other players usually show grey or part of my wallpaper; MPlayer shows the blue because the splash image displayed when a video isn't playing is that color. In windowed view it will leave trails of the video when I drag the window around. In fullscreen, if I right click and bring up the context menu over top of the blue, it will turn black underneath and remain black when the menu goes away, so my only fix as of yet is to repeatedly right click above the bar until all the blue has been covered.
To make up for my terrible imagery, here's some pictures (with captions!) to show what I mean:
MPlayer's beautiful splash (in native resolution, of course).
This shows a video playing in my native resolution. Looks great in fullscreen, too.
Here is the same video when played in 1024x768 (not my native resolution) after dancing the window around my screen a bit.
And finally, here is the video in full screen after bringing the context menu up in front of it a couple times.
This wouldn't be a problem except I watch movies from my notebook on my TV and to do so correctly I have to output my video at 1024x768.
My notebook has a Radeon X1600 and I'm using fglrx as my graphics driver since I've had good luck with it in the past.
My xorg.conf, just in case (yeah, it's a mess):

Thanks for any tips.
edit: I should add that I have not tried rebooting into 1024x768. I might give that a try right now, but it would still be an issue even if that fixed it because I don't want to have to reboot every time I want to watch a video (or I'd probably just boot into windoze or kubuntu).

I finally solved my problem by switching to open gl for my video out driver. I'm a little upset and at the same time ashamed that the fix was so easy when I've been trying for about a week to find it. But it works now so yippee.
