Re: help, xawtv doesn't work

And I find when run xawtv as root, the xawtv will exit with different message:

This is xawtv-3.91, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.5)
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-ledfixed-medium-r-*--39-*-*-*-c-*-*-*" to type FontStruct
X Error of failed request:  BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)

Minor opcode of failed request:  5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request:  250
Current serial number in output stream:  250

And the PC will start to play sound of TV even xawtv "Exit 1"

Re: help, xawtv doesn't work

edit /etc/devfsd and change the v4l permissions from 660 to 666

That should stop the permission denied errors.

My system doesn't have the /etc/devfsd, but it has /etc/devfsd.conf. But there is not v4l in the text file.

(xawtv cannot show picture using root after I configured XF86Config..., it can run as root when the /etc/X11/XF86Config doesn't exist)

Re: help, xawtv doesn't work

REGISTER ^v4l/.* PERMISSIONS root.root 666

A line something like that.  Though, on my system, I created a video group and put myself in it.

REGISTER ^v4l/.* PERMISSIONS root.video 660

I just did

chmod og+rw /dev/v4l/*

and xawt can be run as non root users now...
Is it OK?

(the xawtv just show a black screen now with sound)

That's fine as long as you never reboot your computer again... ever.
