new skype 1.4.x

I'm using skype 1.4.x from aur + latest qt (3.x)..I have never seen such slow skype ..Does anyone have the same problem?

Skype 1.4 needs Qt4. Both is in the community repo.

But i use it with qt 3.x .. do you think this may cause the problem ?And.. can i use kde3.x with qt4.x ?

That is probably the cause of the problem, due to unanswered QT4 calls and such. Try installing qt4(pacman -S qt4), and see if it solves the issue. Oh, and KDE3 uses QT3. However, KDE4 is being developed to use QT4. Cheers.

I have no problem with skype 1.4.x. It definitively works alot better than 1.3 for me.. The sound and the gui is way better. But unfortunately according to powertop it has about 200wakeups /s.. but the skype devs are working on this.

Qt3 and Qt4 are different beasts, they install independently and can be used simultaneously. Skype is slow because it's unuptimized (it's beta after all). Disable emoticon animation or entire emoticon thing - it will help

They are disabled but skype 1.4.x makes my pc so slow that i think i have to used the old one..

Hangs my box when I run it. Mouse moves, CPUs max out, numlock and capslock freeze up too.

Oh, for an OSS version...

Try to [re]move ~/.Skype and try again

Think he means for the Open Sound System.

I too use that and skype ain't working no more...

QT4 in there. Was using the Arch repo version. Rolled back to using the previous 1.3 version. Cannot be bothered to muck around too much with this. Not worth the time.

Skype 1.4 is fantastic compared to earlier versions, qt4 is really nice tbh.

1.4.x version tree is the first I've used on Linux and I like it a lot - the interface is refreshingly minimalistic and functional. Unlike the windows client.
