TV-out - howto expand picture on the TV

Hi I have problem with connecting my laptop to TV. I have an intel GMA950 integrated graphics. The tv-out is working fine, I've got picture but the problem is that there is approximately 2cm wide border around the picture. I would like to extend the picture to the whole panel. Can anyone help me? How does this work for you?

This are my tv settings in xorg.cof:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "TV"
        HorizSync 30-50
        VertRefresh 60
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier "TV"
    Driver "i810"
    Option "MonitorLayout" "TV,LFP"
    Option "TVStandard" "PAL-G"
Option "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO" # "Composite" #"SVIDEO"
    Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"
    Screen 1
    BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier "TV"
    Device "TV"
    Monitor "TV"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1024x768"
    EndSubsection
EndSection

TVout on i81x work only with 800x600 resoluton mode. Correct your xorg.conf or use 2 layouts for X

Re: TV-out - howto expand picture on the TV

Are you sure? I am asking, because it is working with 1024x768. I tested with windows XP and archlinux and i can have both resolutions 800x600 and 1024x768. The black border around the picture is the same. I think that 1024x768 has to be supported by your TV.

The diffrence is that on XP I can expand picture to the screen, so there is no black border around the picture. In this mode the "picture" is slightly bigger than the screen. But when you want to watch the movie it does not matter.

All I want is to have the same TV-OUT functionality in archlinux and in windows.

I gues that I need to provide some modeline to the TV but unfortunately I did not find any usefull information or howto.

So nobody using tv-out and intel card with archlinux? Please post your advices. smile

What your looking for is called overscan.

And afaik it is possible for the drivers not to support it in linux... Dunno bout intel tho, I'd assume it would be possible to do. I got Ati tho and i guess the proprietary drivers don't do overscan sad

I've got no border with the free (xorg) ones. Could be that my ati rage doesn't have this limitation though...

Thank you for the name of my problem. I searched the web, but nothing at the moment. :-(

Does anybody know if overscan works with the new intel driver which is in testing repo?
