Laptop where everything works?

Does anyone have a laptop where everything (video, sound, wifi, nic, mouse, cpu scaling, etc) just worked with Arch?  I was looking at the Dell Inspirions that come with Ubuntu (which I would expect everything to work on), then noticed their Vostros on dealcatcher looked like a better buy.  Except I have no idea how well the Vostros run Linux. I was looking for something in the $600-$800 range, that is as light as possible.

Re: Laptop where everything works?

i have/had two asus laptops and all works just fine. with my current, asus a8jc, everything, except the camera, works. even "echo mem > /proc/power/state" works like a charm with the standard kernel. i recommend to choose a intel or nvidia graphics card.

good luck...

iBook G4 933Mhz w/ Airport extreme.

Everything except for the mic is supported well out of the box with the kernel itself plus bcm firmware.

Asus seem VERY expensive, starting around $1,500.

Yep, Arch Linux PPC. The G4 is kind of obsolescent these days though... hmm
