Hi
I have a rather simple system running on my computer without anything fancy, the things thats constantly running are pidgin, conky, uim, xfce4-panel, skype, xchat and sonata then ether transmission or firefox. The demons I have running are syslog-ng, network, netfs, crond, mpd, alsa, dbus, avahi-deamon, cups and gdm.
For some reason especially Firefox is extremely slow but everything is also rather slow for example startup time of urxvt.
The thing is that my backup system is way faster (Ubuntu with gnome) theres got to be something wrong with ether one of my apps or with my settings, any idea what I have missed?

Is your loopback interface up?
Do you have your machine's name on the 127.0.0.1 line in /etc/hosts?

oh yea, forgot to put in the original post...
Maybe I'm missing an important app or demon?

Anything sucking up CPU at all? (When you run 'top' or similar)
Anything in /var/log/messages or the output from 'dmesg'?
