Hi,
I just installed archlinux x86_64 some days ago on my all new Santa Rosa laptop and that was by far the best thing I could have done.
I have just two problems, both connected to multimedia.
My first problem is, that I can not play DVDs with Totem.
First I though that was because my DVD drive had no regioncode, but even after setting this it still doesn't work
When I insert the DVD Totem starts automatically, but then just shows:
"Totem cannot play this type of media (DVD) because you do not have the appropriate plugins to handle it."
But I think I have installed all the packages needed:
[root@mobile ~]# pacman -Qs dvd
local/gstreamer0.10-dvdread 0.10.6-1 (gstreamer0.10-plugins)
GStreamer dvdread plugin
local/libdvdcss 1.2.9-2
libdvdcss is a cross-platform library for transparent DVD device access with on-the-fly CSS decryption.
local/libdvdread 0.9.7-1
libdvdread provides a simple foundation for reading DVD video disks
Thanks for your help!

Have you tried totem-xine? I don't have totem gstreamer installed, but all my DVDs work fine in Arch64 using totem-xine.

I think you need additional plugins like mpeg2dec to actually play the video on the DVD.

No, I heard that there are less or no problems with xine when it comes to play DVDs, but my first approach is to solve everything with gstreamer.
But I will save that in mind as a final solution.

Hmm, I installed gstreamer0.10-mpeg2dec and later after that was no help either even all gstreamer0.10-plugins, but it is still not working
Thanks for your answers

I get the same error if I try to open a DVD from the menu. Instead, you can choose 'Open Location' and enter 'dvd://' it plays fine (though no menu). For other titles you just add the title number to the end ie 'dvd://1' for title 1 and 'dvd://2' for title 2.

hmm, it's a bit annoying that way with some DVDs, but at least it works. thanks
But as lng as totem/gstreamer has no good DVD support I would recommend ogle, that player is really good!
