"Renaming" sda4 to sda3?

I did some partition editing last night and my sda3 partition is now recognized as sda4.  Is there a way to get it back to sda3?

Partition numbering/naming is bound to conventions (and logical order usually). Can you show your partition layout (maybe a cfdisk screenshot, and fdisk -l output)?

Have you considered persistent naming with udev? that or LVM? This will take care of any hardware swapping you may do in the future.
