I can open images with GIMP, but I need something more comfortable with something like slide shows etc.
Maybe something like "windows picture and fax viewer".
Sugestions?

I use eog (eye of gnome) for all my image watching, it's pretty fast and has slideshows and such. I think you can safely compare it to that windows program you mentioned.
You can try apps like feh too, which are more lightweight. If you like more suggestions: pacman -Ss image|grep -i view -B 1 .

gwenview (KDE), eog (GNOME), feh (console), qiv (console), mirage (gtk)

i vote qiv or preferable feh. feh is an amazing tool. i am still amazed at all it can do.

There is also digikam (KDE), which is very good for managing the photos, although you didn't asked for this feature.
Satisfied users don't rant, so you'll never know how many of us there are.

I use imagemagick.. Has a super ugly X interface though.

I use digikam. I have 400MB of pix backed up on Google's picasa web albums which also does nice slide shows.

F-Spot is another alternative.
