easytag-2.1.1-2 corrupting ID3 tags

Yesterday I spent the evening retagging new MP3's. Today I opened them in XMMS and noticed their tag were completely corrupted. It was very hard to recognize anything at all.

I downgraded to 2.1, which was still in my pacman-cache luckily, and after rewriting the tags, everything is cool again. I don't know if I'm the only one with this issue, but I thought it was worth mentioning here. If you're like me and have some sort of standardized tagging, corrupted tags are a real thorn in the eye! wink

I just checked and apparently 2.1 is the latest stable version, whereas 2.1.2 is the latest development version. That might have something to do with it. My advice is to test it out on just a few files and open them in a few different players to verify their tags are written correctly.

Edit: only the tags are corrupted, the music itself is kept intact.

Everything's okay in amarok, although indeed recently tagged files have strange tags in xmms.

A while ago when I used it on my music library, it destroyed several albums as well.
I didn't try to investigate it, I don't know what these albums had that made easytag fail, and why easytag destroyed these files when trying to tag them.
Maybe that's just an old bug that has been fixed ages ago. But if you want to be on the safe side, be sure you've a backup (I had one) smile

AFAIK, you can have both id3v1 and id3v2 tags on mp3. Do amarok and xmms show the same ?
Or maybe an encoding problem?

Is the issue only showing itself in XMMS?

I checked it in XMMS and Beep Media Player. They're probably too similar to do any real debugging of the problem. In XMMS I only got jibberish, BMP didn't bother showing the tags, it only showed the filenames. In BMP the tags themselves were empty.

I still have some files with corrupted tags, so I can give you more information if you want.

Can you verify that Amarok displays the actual ID3 tags rather than showing info based on the filename? I've never used Amarok, but I've read it's a pretty powerful music player so it wouldn't surprise me if it could parse filenames.
