A few Xfce problems...

I installed KDEmod, and I liked it. But it was too slow so I removed it all. Now I've installed Xfce (I don't like Gnome) and it's working relatively well, but there are a few problems:

1. How do I theme GDM? I can't find anything about GDM...
2. When I turn off/restart the computer, it falls back to a terminal login screen. Huh?

There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

Re: A few Xfce problems...

Actually, I use all of the DEs tongue Xfce on my "slow" computer, Gnome on the once Ubuntu computer (although I don't like Gnome, it's for everyone else) and KDEmod on my most powerful computer. KDE is my favourite though smile

EDIT: Looked in the wiki. Nothing there that helps sad

Re: A few Xfce problems...

1. /usr/sbin/gdmsetup - you should be able to use that pretty straightforward
2. add gdm/kdm/xdm in your DAEMONS array in /etc/rc.conf
for other (better) ways to do that dolby has hinted you -> http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Start_X_at_boot

Re: A few Xfce problems...

Actually, when it falls back to the terminal login screen, I can't type anything. It's just frozen. I can't access the computer for various reasons at the moment.

Re: A few Xfce problems...

XFCE4 is not full package in ArchLinux IMHO, it miss some things. To much job to be done. Take heavy KDE or KDE modular big_smile

1. How do I theme GDM? I can't find anything about GDM

Adding a login manager

GDM themes smile

Did you try SLiM? It's perfect if you don't want to be dependable on GDM or KDM.

When I turn off/restart the computer, it falls back to a terminal login screen. Huh?

Did you put gdm in rc.conf daemons section?
