Hi
At first: I'm not sure if this post is right in this forum so feel free to move if you think somewhere else it's better...
I'm planning to buy a new PC very soon...
Until today I was pretty sure that I'll buy a card with a Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT chipset..
But my friend gave me this link: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a … =781&num=2
This article says that the geforce 8600 chip is sometimes faster than the 8600 GT is...
Now I'm not sure anymore...
Could some users with 8600 chipset and some users with 6800 chipset post their glxgears values (please tell us which chipset and which driver you use)
That would really help me
Big thanks in advance

xfx gforce 6800 128MB 256 DDR Dual DVI TV
Do you really need more. I use it for Over-the-Air HDTV. Works perfectly.

63052 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12610.212 FPS
63422 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12684.397 FPS
63432 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12686.397 FPS
63470 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12693.951 FPS
63425 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12684.942 FPS
63432 frames in 5.0 seconds = 12686.233 FPS
with a 8600GT 256Mb (MSI) and with Nvidia drivers 100.14.11. But I don't think glxgears really reflects the performance.

Big thanks for your replies
...But I don't think glxgears really reflects the performance.
Yes, I know...
But it's hard to test the "real" performance...
If I'd say please test it with Doom 3 (or any other game) there would be so many factors that could "change" the result (for example the RAM and the CPU)
So I think the value from glxgears is ok for an overview
Maybe someone else could post his results
Thanks in advance again .. and have a nice day

Have heard bad things about both I think. As far as I have heard the way to go is the 8800GTS ;-)
I'm saving now
