Proxy troubles

I use a network proxy for all internet access (HTTP, FTP, SOCKS, SSL etc). I have no idea where to input the proxy information to make pacman (or indeed anything) work. Any ideas?

I've already had a look at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/How … tification but the described process has not worked.
