I have arch running on two computers.
One computer I got for free.. and with these specs you can probably find it very cheap secondhand..:
XP1700
Ati radeon 8500 (3D driver works.. - heard it's more difficlut with newer ati's)
256MB RAM
60GB ata maxtor
Some motherboard I don't even know what it is Since I never needed to know I don't, arch found out everything just fine.
onboard sound.. onboard ethernet..

Other computer is a laptop Toshiba A110-228, only cost 550 euro. That's perhaps around 750 dollar.
Intel centrino and intel graphic card.. Widescreen, quite good sound, 512MB ram, 60GB hd.. External big hd's are really cheap now, so can easily be bought as an extra.
