My laptop 'stalls' for a few sec every now and then

Greetings. This is my first post in this forum so bare with me.

I used to run Ubunty on this laptop and all were fine.
But since i changed to Arch it stalls for a few seconds every now and then, and i have no idea why.
At first i was thinking X.org caused it, but it happens without Xorg started to.
I have no idea were to begin to look for the problem.

Anyone of you have any ideas?

Regards.

I know why now. It's when my wlan disconnect and tries to connect again. Im using the madwifi driver. Any idea why it causes the computer to stall?

Regards.

Re: My laptop 'stalls' for a few sec every now and then

I've got exactly the same problem, every now and then my pc just freezes and the duration varies between less than a second and like two seconds. It started when I upgraded to linux 2.6.22 but I've got other updates too that day so I'm not sure it's the kernel. I'm also using madwifi so it's possible that the problem is with that package but I haven't noticed any connection losses.

I have a similar problem with my laptop since kernel update to 2.6.22.  The workaround for my system is to add clock=pit to the kernel command line.

Re: My laptop 'stalls' for a few sec every now and then

I'm not using laptop, however since 2.6.22 I had these freezing problems when playing tc-elite.
After adding "clock=pit" to kernel command line, the problem was gone.
Thanks for the advice!
