Paste into vi using middle mouse button (solved)

Hi guys

For some strange reason I cannot paste text into vi using my middle mouse button. No matter what terminal I use it doesn't work.. Any ideas?

Hold down the shit key, then click the middle button.
If you search the forum, you will find other solutions, but that is probably the easiest.

your /etc/vimrc file has probably been updated when vi was updated. look for a set mouse= line and comment it out.

of just paste using
(normal mode) !!xclip -o -select clipboard

of course you need to install xclip with pacman -Sy xclip

Thanks! this was bugging me for a long time.  :set mouse=r wasn't working for the next session, so I was just using the shift key all the time. I thought the config was ~/.vimrc, but editing that wasn't working either. Commenting out the line in /etc/vimrc fixed it, cheers.
