XFCE takes a really long time to start

I've had it start on this laptop way faster before, but somehow I did something to it to really slow down its boot.  You know the default startup splash, how it has a pulsing mouse?  It used to start in 1 or 2 pulses, now it takes like 7 or 8.  Is it trying to connect to samba shares or something?

Have you tried switching to the "simple" splash? It gives a little more information about what's going on (ironically enough smile ).

Sounds silly have you got localhost in /etc/hosts

/etc/hosts example

#
# /etc/hosts: static lookup table for host names
#

#<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
# End of file

Re: XFCE takes a really long time to start

I'm afraid I'm going to be of limited help from here on in then, since I use ROX-Filer. But I suppose the next logical step is to kill Thunar, restart it from a terminal window, and see if it spews out any helpful messages.
