Re: USB disk access of every type is hosed - HELP!?

after you try clicking on your big partition, and getting the permission error

can run dmesg in a terminal and see if there's any additional errors there?

Does it work for a regular pen drive?

Re: USB disk access of every type is hosed - HELP!?

If you really just need to get at your data.

Use the mount command I mentioned, I guarantee that'll work.

You can log in as Jim, open a terminal su to root, and run the command.

Once the drive is mounted you'll be able to access it through Thunar.

Wish I could've solved your problem, I gotta go for now, good luck.

Re: USB disk access of every type is hosed - HELP!?

Here's the dmesg output - I'll try hand-mounting next.

Re: USB disk access of every type is hosed - HELP!?

Couple other small issues I see. One, I believe you need to run fam with xfce. Install it and add it to your DAEMONS array in /etc/rc.conf. The other problem I think I see is that you have not set your locale by editing /etc/rc.conf, /etc/locale.gen and then running locale-gen as root.
BTW, if you want to leave your USB drive hooked up,  just add an fstab entry for it. smile

Re: USB disk access of every type is hosed - HELP!?

One advice: remove the autofs completely, add "dbus hal" to deamons array in /etc/rc.conf (before kdm or gdm? deamon) and add yourself to the groups disk, optical and storage.

This always worked for me. The USB disks are automatically detected on my KDE desktop.
