The whole Gnome "shutdown/restart/logout" process isn't working?

It WAS working at one point, then I did some tweaking on daemons in rc.conf and...something is halting my ability to do anything under the shutdown menu (or button) in Gnome.  The shutdown window itself crashes and a message comes up that it's not responding.

Here's my daemons from rc.conf:

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond ntpd hal cups gdm alunnd)

---

Update: before posting this I tried adding acpid - including to the daemons list above and "pacman -S acpid".  No joy there.

This isn't the "showstopper" that lack of USB disk access (see other thread) is because "shutdown -r/-h now" works, but...it's annoying.

Thanks,

Jim

I think, u need to had  "dbus" to DAEMONS in rc.conf

and add your user to the "power" group  smile

addicionally, olso to the "dbus" and "hal" group

Nope...that didn't help.

Sigh.

you have to run /etc/rc.d/network start (or put network in DAEMONS line again). I don't know why gnome is so stupid.

I've added my user to dbus, power and hal and I have dbus, hal and network as daemons. I still don't see a shutdown button. Do I need gdm running?

Re: The whole Gnome "shutdown/restart/logout" process isn't working?

You can remove alunnd. lessthanjake rewrote ALUNN so it does not require the daemon now. I am assuming you are running the current ALUNN release from [community].

With that change, making gdm the last in the list, we will have nearly identical rc.conf files (I use openntpd).

FWIW, I notice that my user is not a member of the hal, dbus, or power groups and the shutdown/reboot/logout menus are working fine in Gnome here. I know that is not very helpful, but since our setups sound somewhat similar perhaps we can spot the difference that WILL help
