Regular users lost Internet after upgrade

After I installed 2007.05 and inmediately upgraded to 2007.08, I found that regular users were not able to log into the internet. As usual, regular users are members of the wheel, optical, audio and users groups.

What gives? yikes

Thanks in advance.

Re: Regular users lost Internet after upgrade

How are you connecting? If it's with NetworkManager, users will need to be a member of the network group.

The wheel group is normally used to give users root rights, a regular user should NOT have root rights.

Booting with apg Openrc, NOT systemd.
Automounting : not needed, i prefer pmount
Aur helpers : makepkg + my own local repo === rarely need them

RC.conf, and I did try adding myself to the network group (to no avail).

I fixed it by reinstalling 2007.05 from scratch (.08's iso won't boot on me) and upgrading inmediately. Rough fix, but it worked. big_smile

wheel=root rights? Rights like what? I've always added myself to wheel for over a year now and I've never had such rights...

Good link describing the group: http://administratosphere.wordpress.com … eel-group/

Why would you add yourself to a group when you don't even know what the purpose of the group is?

Next time it happens have a look at /etc/resolv.conf and make sure it was not overwritten.
