Video Encoders With Gui

i know ffmpeg and memcoder are use for converting video files and stuff but is there a decent gui for them

am willing to learn the commandline way of it just not yet

my Desktop Envioument will be kde

If the above is not what your after this seems to have a fair few options using a cli, re-encodes to h264 also xvidenc in AUR if you'd rather xvid.

Think both will encode mkv have a look plenty of options. Also gives you the option of seeing the mencoder command at the end.

Avidemux is a nice GUI app for basic editing and encoding of video files.  It is a GTK app though, I'm not sure there is a comparable KDE program.

To answer people replays and hopefully not trying to sound rude am not look for something to convert avi to dvd

i looking for something that will convert to mpg to avi and the various other format eg avi to flash etc

programs in windows that does this so people get the idea

and when it come to the mac there ffmpegx

am looking for a gui that pretty close to those 2

i be going back to arch linux tomorrow just got blank cds

Tovid has a GUI and it "may" do what you want. I haven't used tovid in a long time, but, it's command line usage was pretty easy.

try avidemux, the last release has both GTK & QT guis. and it can convert all kind of video formats. it is the Linux VirtualDub.
