I'm not so experienced, so I'll leave it to somebody that knows this more than me. I don't want to mess up things, since I've never even tried to create a PKGBUILD yet, I'm too new to Arch...

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

@Tardo :
links to your pkgbuilds/patches are no longer working (404 not found)
Could you upload them to a more permanent location (maybe archlinux.pastebin.org ?)

As the devil package in the repos still is the stable version (from 2004) , i think it would be a good idea if the rc2 became an aur package.

@finferflu
As this thread clearly shows you can always get help here at the forums.
I'm willing to take the devil-rc2 package, but i suggest you take the funguloids package.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

Check my previous post, I changed the links.
And please do not add devil to AUR, I will delete it. AUR isn't meant for duplicated packages. The devs have been notified and they will build it when they see fit. Until then, use makepkg.

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

Well, i viewed devil rc2 as a development version, and development versions for official packages are often placed in aur.
As TU it' s your call, so i wont upload a devil rc2 package.

Looks like an aur package for funguloids will be delayed until devil is updated.

Funguloids now starts, but as soon as i hit space/enter/esc during the into it crashes :

Wow, it's the first time that something that works for me doesn't work for others, it's usually the opposite tongue

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

@sickhate : i used tardo's pkgbuilds and funguloids got a lot farther than before, but still failed.

I can think of 2 causes :
- Another dependency of ogre has a bug

- Videodrivers :
Tardo has an ati card
sickhate uses a nvidia card supported by the latest nvidia drivers
Finferflu - unknown
Mardukas - unknown
Lone_Wolf - nvidia Ti4200 , supported by nvidia-96xx

I'll try compiling/running funguloids on my laptop that has an ati onboard videocard.

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

I can help you out of you can trace the error. Here are some tips:

- Don't build ogre with freeimage. It's really buggy software.
- Try a recent version of devil, with my patches it should compile fine.
- Make sure you compile them in order. devil, then ogre, then funguloids.
- You need nvidia-cg-toolkit. Doesn't matter what card you have.
- Don't skip any dependencies in my pkgbuilds.

To do a trace, run "strace funguloids &> output" and pastebin output. Similarly, you can use gdb and backtrace to find the function where it crashes.

At the very least, paste the output of the error.

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

For your information, my graphics card is an ATI Radeon Mobility 7500.

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

Hey, I've been trying to get funguloids work myself for a while but always got this segfault.  Here's the last 1000 lines of running 'strace funguloids &> output' : http://phpfi.com/256536 .  My graphics card is an intel 915gm.

I maintain the ogre package and would update it to work better with funguloids if the devil dependency was in the AUR.

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

try this:

gdb funguloids
(inside gdb)
run
bt (after segfault)

then paste the output. apparently you ran out of (video?) memory, so i'd say fix that first, but I want to be sure...

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

Maybe my hardware's just too slow - the allocated VRAM I have is 65536.
Here's the gdb output http://phpfi.com/256542 .

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

Strace gave an output of 3.6 mb , and even after removing sections that just repeated it was still 450 kb.

This is the final part of the output : http://archlinux.pastebin.org/619

When using gdb after funguloids crashed X was also frozen and i had to kill the x server, so no gdb output.

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

you could probably get gdb output if you ran it from another VT (like VT1) with the DISPLAY=:0 env variable.

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

Works on an ATI 9600XT with the radeon driver. However:

- The framerate in the menu is awful. It also looks like the background is drawn multiple times at different locations, and a couple of times vertically mirrored.
- Ingame everything is just fine.
- Keystroke repeating is disabled by Funguloids... If you quit the game it's still disabled. Seems to be a bug.

For the lazy; I've got a set of prebuilt binaries (tardo's PKGBUILDs) at http://130.89.169.10/funguloids/

EDIT: A few errors are mentioned in the FAQ as well;

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

# Q: Funguloids fails to start with following assertion error, what gives?
("OgreGpuProgram.cpp:621: void Ogre::GpuProgramParameters::_writeRawConstants(size_t, const float*, size_t): Assertion `physicalIndex + count <= mFloatConstants.size()' failed.")
# A: This is an Ogre bug, and happens on older cards which don't support shaders (either correctly, or at all).
UPDATE: This has been fixed in Ogre 1.4.2, so upgrading to that should help.

This looks just like the error i'm getting, but we are using ogre 1.4.3 so it appears ogre DIDN'T fix it.

Note to self : stay away from ogre until it' s more mature

Let me know if you still want the gdb output for my sytem and i'll try it with gdb running in a real console instead of an x-terminal.

Re: [Request] Those Funny Funguloids

Tardos PKGBUILDs are working perfectly here.

Thanks for that smile I tried it some time ago, but had no chance to get it to work...
