Brian Beckman gave an inverview on physics in games, in which, among other topics, he talks about Rigs of Rods. Dr. Beckman is a physicist that worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, then at Microsoft research labs, where, among other things, he contributed to the physics of the racing game Forza. He is the author or one of the most comprehensive racing car physics study online.
So when he says "this is one of the best driving simulation I have ever seen", that means something must be good in RoR... :-)
He explains very well my ideas behind the physics of RoR ("overwhelming a problem with computing horsepower", "less is more"), and, as RoR proved it, the validity of such an approach given the computing horsepower available today. He then suggests this may become the future of video games, and they will look into it. Wow. I'm impressed...

that looks nice!.. I'll give it a try.

I can't run it... someone else should try. (all deps are either in aur or the repos)

I got it running somewhat in 32-bit chroot. Crashed always though.
Things you probably have to do:
change
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="./"to
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:./"in files 'RoR' and 'RoRconfig'
Unpack ubuntu-deps(http://repository.rigsofrods.com/files/ubuntu-deps.tar.bz2) to RoR directory.
deps :
nvidia-cg-toolkit
devil
openal
FreeType
wxWidgets (from ubuntu deps)

It runs, with sluggish performance (ATI 9600XT). You WILL need the Ubuntu deps, or the libs from a rebuilt wxgtk-2.6 without '--enable-unicode', as our wxgtk libs are built with unicode support, however RoR is linked against the ANSI version.

no one can run it fine yet? ![]()
