safe to delete pacnew & hyphen files after fresh install?

I did a new install, and had a bunch of .pacnew and hyphen-appended filenames, so I deleted them.  I assume these came from my initial "pacman -Syu" runs. Do I need to re-install, or is it safe to ignore them on a fresh install?  the system seems fine.

It is, your computer do not use them.
rm -f *-
