Just tried it. Looks great and no bugs experienced so far...

Here is a package: gimp-devel-2.4.0rc1-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz

Printing is borked still. So, if one needs their graphics application to print, the 2.2.x branch may still be a good option.

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

Printing photos works fine here. Still need to do more testing before I'll use it full time though.

Wow. The print dialog segfaults for me and at least one of the Gimps devs:

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

I spotted that also with the Gimp dev. So either the man upstairs likes me or I just got very lucky. I have noticed that it takes about 30sec longer for a photo to be sent to the printer but after that she prints fine.

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

I'm trying to sort this out with the Gimp people. Funkyou, I know you're on 32 bit. The print dialog is functional for you? lumiwa and bones, are either of you on 64 bit?

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

The print dialog works fine here, no crashes.

Never printed with gimp before so far and used only cups-pdf for testing, but the only thing i spotted was that my photos were very low-res after printing to pdf (and also in the print preview). But i think thats just a setup thing...

And yes, i686 here.

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

Just as a kind of WTF thing, but Gimp 2.4 RC1 has replaced the old version (like 2.2.19 i think) in Debian Unstable smile

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

Does GIMP 2.4 RC1 have any dangerous dependencies? For example, will I have to upgrade my GTK or any other key library just to try it out?

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

There's a very modern GTK2 (2.10.13) requirement by Gimp 2.4, but it's not as modern as what Arch is using right now.

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

So, does this mean that if I am running a fresh Arch 2007.08 (Dont Panic) that I can just install GIMP 2.4 without it trashing my (beautifully tuned) setup?

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

I use gqview-devel for browsing my pictures and encountered a misbehaviour when pressing crtl-1, which worked well starting gimp2.2.
In connection with gimp 24 rc1 or the latest devel-releases for Arch I got a message "missing -n option" or so.

Has there ever been an option "-n" in gimp, and has this been dropped in the developing branch?

I don't think you will get a guarantee that everything will work exactly the same way, especially when using nonstable versions. Nor will I. But we are on arch, aren't we? :) Simply say pacman -R gimp-devel and pacman -S gimp, and everything should work again.

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

Indeed! Arch's rolling release approach does present problems from time to time. Being on the bleeding edge has its price as well as its benefits. Enough said - thanks! I was just worrying about having to update half my core files (gtk, atk, etc.0 just to try out this new GIMP. I remember doing that with a SuSE 9.0 install when I was trying to get GIMP 2.0 loaded up! I ended up trashing the distro and had to reload. Just a bit skittish about stuff like that these days!

I'm running a gimp 2.4 svn snapshot from yesterday. It's running brilliantly.

Re: Gimp 2.4 Released!!!

I just updated the gimp-devel package in unstable to 2.4rc1.

Stefan Husmann : In gqview: Edit-> Preferences --> Editors tab,
remove the -n option from the gimp-remote line.
